Grey Gables Tea Room
A proper afternoon tea in a Victorian parlour — scones, sandwiches, and the town's best chicken salad.

What to expect at Grey Gables Tea Room
Grey Gables is a small institution — a Victorian house half a block off the square converted into a tea room by owners who take both the tea and the sandwiches seriously. It seats about 40 across three parlour rooms with lace tablecloths and mismatched china, and it does one thing well: a leisurely 90-minute lunch or a proper afternoon tea with scones, tiered sandwiches, house-made preserves and a genuinely broad tea selection.
Lunch runs $12-14 and centres on the chicken salad, which comes on a croissant with fruit and a cup of the day's soup — the pimento cheese variant is a Robertson County staple. Afternoon tea is $18 and needs a day's notice; it comes with two tea choices, three finger sandwiches, two scones, clotted cream and a small dessert. Not haute cuisine — genuinely comforting Southern-parlour cooking, and a nice contrast to the pizza-and-BBQ default of the region.
Reservations are strongly encouraged, especially for Saturday lunch and any afternoon tea. It closes at 3pm — this is not a dinner spot. Best paired with a wander around the antique malls on the square before or after; the tea room is a three-minute walk from the courthouse. Gluten-free scones are available with 24-hour notice.
