What to expect at Bella's Tavola Italiana
Bella's is the restaurant that changed what Springfield expects from dinner. Opened in the mid-2010s in a restored square-side storefront, it does properly wood-fired pizza (the oven is visible from the dining room), house-made pasta, a short but real Italian wine list and desserts made in-house. It is not fussy and it is not pretending to be Nashville — it is a good neighbourhood Italian restaurant that happens to sit on a small-town square.
The room is warm brick and exposed rafters, seats about 70 inside and another 20 on the sidewalk patio in season. Lunch is quick — a Margherita and a glass of house red gets you out in 45 minutes. Dinner slows down; expect 90 minutes for two courses. Sunday brunch is a local secret: shakshuka, tiramisu French toast, bottomless mimosas for $15. The bar makes proper cocktails, and the servers actually know the wine list.
Book Friday and Saturday nights — the small dining room fills by 7. Sunday brunch takes walk-ins but expect a 20-minute wait after 11:30. The patio is first-come-first-served and is the best seat in the house on a spring evening. Parking is free 2-hour on the square; go around the corner for unlimited. Combine with a wander of the square before or after.
