What to expect at Robertson County Fairgrounds
The Robertson County Fairgrounds are more than the site of one August fair — they're an all-year community green off Highway 431 South, with a walking track around the arena, a large livestock barn, a covered stage and open lawns that host everything from tractor pulls to the Middle Tennessee Barrel Racing series. Outside event days it is quiet, free and open to walkers, and the 0.7-mile perimeter loop is a favourite for locals who want a flat, fenced spot to jog with the dog.
The main event is the Robertson County Fair each August — nine days of livestock shows, tobacco judging (this is one of the last dark-fired tobacco regions in the country), a proper midway with rides, funnel cakes and demolition derbies on the closing Saturday. Admission runs about $8, kids under 6 free, and parking is on-site. The rest of the year you'll find the horse arena in use most weekends and a monthly flea market in the covered pavilion — worth a stop if you're passing.
If you can time your trip for fair week (mid-August), do — it is the region at its most itself. Otherwise, come on a Saturday morning to catch whatever horse or livestock event is scheduled; check the fairgrounds Facebook page the day before. Park in the front lot off 431; the back lot is only opened during major events. Combine with a stop at the Downtown Square, ten minutes north.
