What to expect at Historic Downtown Springfield Square
The Springfield Square is the town's living room. The 1879 Robertson County Courthouse sits dead-centre with its clock tower and Civil War monument, and the four surrounding blocks hold about thirty independent businesses in restored 19th-century storefronts — antique dealers, a bookshop, a couple of boutiques, three coffee places and the sort of lunch counters that still write the specials on a chalkboard. It is small, it is walkable, and it is genuinely the answer to 'where's the town centre'.
Do it as a slow loop. Start at the courthouse steps for the monument and the Robertson County WWI plaque, then work clockwise: 5th Avenue for the antique malls (Bunny's Attic and Antiques on Main are the two big ones), 6th Avenue for coffee and lunch at Bella's or Grey Gables, then back down Main for the bookshop and the little brick alley courtyard behind the old bank building. Most of it takes 90 minutes if you don't shop, half a day if you do.
First Fridays each month bring an evening art walk with galleries and shops open till 8pm and live music at the courthouse gazebo — worth timing a visit for. Otherwise Saturday morning is the busiest and best; Sundays are very quiet with most shops closed. Free street parking is 2-hour limit around the square itself, unlimited one block off. Combine with the Robertson County Museum a block north.
