Coopertown Back Roads
The county's quietest corner — one-lane blacktops, roadside stands, and country churches that predate the state.

What to expect at Coopertown Back Roads
Coopertown is the smallest incorporated town in Robertson County and the least visited — which is exactly why it is worth a slow morning. The roads south of downtown Coopertown (Old Highway 41, Kelly Willis Road, Sam Buck Road) thread through some of the oldest continuously farmed land in Middle Tennessee, past 1830s Presbyterian churches, family cemeteries dating to the 1810s, and a scatter of roadside stands that sell whatever's in season — jars of honey on the honour system, cash box on the fencepost.
There's no route to follow, and that is the point. Take Highway 41 south from Springfield about 12 miles, turn off at Coopertown town hall, and just wander the two-lane blacktops. Coopertown Baptist Church (1857) is worth a stop; the cemetery behind it is a walk through the county's founding families. The old Coopertown School building, now a community center, hosts an occasional Saturday morning breakfast that locals rave about. Don't expect signs or gift shops — this is countryside people live in, not countryside for visitors.
Best in late spring or fall. Avoid after rain — some back roads flood in the low spots. Fill up in Springfield or Greenbrier; there is essentially no commerce out here. Pair with lunch back on the Springfield square or a stop at the Greenbrier Restaurant on Highway 41. This is a stop for travellers who value quiet and history over programmed attractions.
