Capitol District. A newer mixed-use development adjacent to downtown, home to the Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District and close to the CHI Health Center and TD Ameritrade Park.

West Omaha. A suburban area with shopping centers, offices, and easy access to the interstate, offering a quieter stay away from downtown. Properties like the DoubleTree by Hilton Omaha Southwest serve this area.

Getting there and around

Omaha is served by Eppley Airfield (OMA), located about three miles northeast of downtown. The airport has direct flights to many major U.S. cities. From the airport, taxis, ride-share services, and rental cars are available; public buses also connect to downtown. By car, Omaha is reached via Interstate 80 from the east and west, and Interstate 29 from the north and south. Amtrak's California Zephyr stops at the Omaha station, though service is once daily in each direction. Getting around Omaha is easiest by car, as the city is spread out and public transit is limited. Downtown and the Old Market are walkable, and a network of trails along the Missouri River is popular for walking and cycling.

When to go

The best times to visit Omaha are spring (April to May) and fall (September to October), when temperatures are mild and outdoor activities are comfortable. Summers can be hot and humid, with highs often in the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit, while winters are cold, with occasional snow and temperatures below freezing. Major events include the College World Series in June and the Omaha Jazz and Blues Festival in July. If you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting in late spring or early fall.
